There are electrical gremlins living behind the dash where I will have to pull the dash to fix them any way. I have been toying with the idea of putting a SS gauge cluster in it so that I have all my gauges in the dash. However I want to keep my column shift. I know they made a round speedo that has the PRNDL on the bottom, that will fit, I think was in the Monte Carlo. I do not know where to look to find one. If any one can guide me to a one of these speedos I would appreciate it. 1981 Silverado 2wd

Unless you do a lot of your own fab and support work to mold the cluster with a custom look. And I can't imagine how to do it so it would look nice. The SS dash with or without the gauge cluster and the sweep style are not compatible at all. With the exception of the switches, dash pad and glove box door as far as I recall. As far as I know they do not reproduce the round Speedo with the shift selector indicator. And I have not checked yet to see if the indicator and parts to make the thing work are the same SS to Sweep style. I have the Column shift speedo, indicator and all the parts to make it work. I plan to use them in my 70 Malibu to swap over to the SS style dash. Send me a PM if you decide to go through with it and you need photos or measurments of any of the part. I can get them from the parts I have in case you go to a swap meet etc. Tony 70 Chevelle SS 454

There is one for sale here. You could easily replace the missing PRNDL with an S-10 PRNDL. (You can have overdrive or non overdrive, depending on the year you S-10 you look at. Most pre-1984 S-10s had NO OD... models after that had OD.) Just cut it out and make it fit into the window on the speedo. Hope that helps, Doc's Wife/Chevellegirl/Spiral

But since you say you have the sweep style dash it will not eliminate that fact that you will need to source (either new repro or used)round gauage style dash, the cluster housing behind the dash, printed circuit as well as the wiring harness to use that speedo in your car. If you are planning on doing so then getting a speedo like this from a trusted source is not a bad idea. Tony 70 Chevelle SS 454

I have seen the complete kit for an ss dash for $1500 in a catalog I have. Also I've foun some wiring harness's locally as well as a dashboad (door to door) with no gauges on Craigslist. I've got a round speedo with the PRNDL window and working PRNDL in it, however the gauge faces are badley rusted. The PRNDL is in good shape and I have removed it and it looks like it will fit into another gauge if I cut the window in it. The Speedo that was listed on Ebay is missing a needle, which may not be that big of a deal but I would like to get one that is good and ready to go. I was looking for any sort of lead to a place that might sell what I'm looking for. 1981 Silverado 2wd

We had to heat up areas with a heatgun to make the plastic move around enough to fit the main braces and the cluster that came with this 'complete dash' had holes that were too small for the bulb sockets, misaligned mounting areas for the gauges and the dashpad doesn't fit properly either. Look for a decent used OEM unit that is in usable shape that might just need a little repair or to be painted. *Drops my 2 pennies in the bucket* Jacki Doc's Wife/Chevellegirl/Spiral

The tin/metal piece that enclosed the "guts" rattled like crazy and its age was definitely showing. As I was getting ready to drop in a new 383, the need for gauges became an issue. Well, after looking at all the options, to include a new or pieced-together SS dash, I didn't deem any of them perfect. That said, a compromise was inevitable. My compromise was a Dakota Digital set up. You have to send them the "sweep" dash module to DD where they replace the guts. If I planned on racing my EC, I would have selected a more traditional approach to gauges, but as it stands I've got all the gauges I need (none hanging under the dash). While not cheap, it cost far less than an SS swap. I like some of the electronic features such as the ability to calibrate the odometer/speedometer when changing tires or rear end ratios. Lastly, I was concerned about aesthetics going into the project. Once installed, however, it actually "fits" well. Lemme know if you would like to see an installed pic. Tim
