FAQs

What is the secret to making good nachos? ›

The best nachos feature a mix of cooked and fresh ingredients, such as grilled shrimp and cilantro. Yet it's best to keep hot and cold separate throughout the preparation process, so fresh herbs and green onions don't wilt from heat, and guacamole and sour cream don't liquefy.

What are Irish nachos made of? ›

Irish nachos are traditionally made with sliced potatoes that have been crisped up. Then a cheese sauce or a beer cheese sauce is poured on the potato slices. My version uses potato chips and shredded cheese to get that same nacho goodness without all the work.

What is the best melting cheese for nachos? ›

A: While you can technically use any type of cheese for nachos, some cheeses work better than others. The best options include Cheddar, Monterey Jack, Pepper Jack, and Queso Blanco.

What is the secret to crispy nachos? ›

Limiting the number of ingredients baked with the chips is the key to crispiness. Top chips with no more than two or three toppings. Choose from items such as black beans, refried beans, chopped grilled chicken, seasoned ground beef (browned and drained), or chopped jalapenos.

Which cheese in nachos? ›

Cheddar cheese is a popular choice these days, though Monterey Jack and Mozzarella work just as well. Nacho cheese, or cheese sauce, is another delightful interpretation of this key ingredient. To transform your nachos into a heartier snack or even a main meal, consider adding a meat filling.

What are black nachos made from? ›

Layers of crisp blue corn chips, Monterey jack cheese, refried black beans, and topped with pico de gallo.

How do you layer nachos so they don't get soggy? ›

Instead of putting the nacho toppings on top of the chips, you could put the toppings (meat, cheese, beans, etc.) in the middle and just put the chips around it. This way the chips don't get so soggy.

How to stop nachos from going soggy? ›

* Bring refrigerated toppings to room temperature before piling them onto the warm chips. * To prevent the chips from getting soggy, sprinkle grated or crumbled cheese on top and bake them in the oven for a few minutes. When melted, the cheese will act as a buffer between the chips and toppings.

What is the best order of layers for nachos? ›

A great way to serve nachos to a larger party is to layer them, baking in between each layer. Start with a base of tortilla chips, cheese, salsa, jalapeño, and any warm fillings like meats and veggies. Once the cheese melts, remove from the oven, add another layer, and repeat.
