The low carb custard recipe can be made in one large dish for sharing, or poured into individual ramekins for a perfect portion controlled dessert.

Being originally South African, I often think of dishes of my childhood and try and recreate them.

This was initially inspired by the South African Milk Tart, but transformed into a baked egg custard as there’s 50/50 cream and milk for extra creaminess (and healthy fats) and the complete lack of the quintessential Milk Tart crust.

You can enjoy this best keto custard warm, as a comforting sweet treat straight from the oven, maybe even topped with a scoop of keto ice cream for the incrediblecool/warm contrast.

Or, allow to cool completely then pop in the fridge to chill and enjoy as a make ahead, chilled perfect dessert from the fridge, topped with low carb berries, if you’d like.

Keto Vanilla Custard Recipe Ingredients

Here are the six simple ingredients that you’ll need for the easy low-carb dessert:

Eggs – use large eggs in this recipe and you don’t even need to separate egg yolks from the egg whites. The whole eggs are simply whisked together with the rest of the main ingredients and the whole thing is baked in the oven to create the perfect creamy dessert.

Milk – you can use unsweetened almond milk, coconut milk or whatever low carb, keto diet milk alternative you usually use that will keep the recipe low in g net carbs.

Cream – heavy cream, double cream or heavy whipping cream will create a rich and creamy custard with a silky smooth texture. But, you can use whatever cream you have lurking in your fridgein the cream mixture.

You could also swap for coconut cream or another dairy-free option if you’d prefer for the low carb egg custard recipe to be dairy free.

Stevia – is my sweetener of choice in this sugar free custard, but feel free to swap it for monk fruit sweetener, swerve, erythritol, or your sugar substitute of choice. Using more or less than the recipe suggests, depending on how sweet you like your ketogenic desserts to be and how sweet your sweetener options are.

Vanilla Extract – to enhance the flavor of the easy dessert and create a rich vanilla flavor in the sweet custard pudding.

Ground Cinnamon – is an essential ingredient in this keto egg custard recipe, for me at least, but you can skip it or swap the spice for nutmeg instead, if you like.
