AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The NCAA women’s selection committee will release the seeding for the entire tournament field for the first time next season. The change means the full seed list for all 68 teams will be revealed on Selection Sunday as it has been with the men. NCAA Division I Basketball Committee chair Derita Dawkins says the change will provide additional transparency. The committee also announced that the first- and second-round games will continue to be hosted by the top 16 seeds on March 19-24, 2025. Birmingham, Alabama, and Spokane, Washington, will then host eight-team regionals.

UNDATED (AP) — The Pac-12’s existing bowl game agreements will continue through the 2025 season despite the league’s breakup. Among other things, it means Oregon State and Washington State, the two remaining Pac-12 schools after the conference collapsed in realignment last summer, will retain their postseason opportunities. The league has worked with the ACC, Big 12 and Big Ten conferences on the agreements for the Holiday Bowl, Independence Bowl, Las Vegas Bowl, LA Bowl, Sun Bowl, Alamo Bowl and the ESPN bowl pool.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A U.S. appeals court in Philadelphia has ruled that some college athletes may qualify as employees under federal wage-and-hour laws. The court says a test should be developed to differentiate students who play college sports for fun from those whose effort “crosses the legal line into work” that benefits the school. The NCAA had hoped to have the case dismissed. It now goes back to a trial judge for fact finding. The ruling follows a Supreme Court case that led the NCAA to allow athletes to profit from their name, image and likeness.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Pac-12 may be down to the Pac-2, but that doesn’t mean the league or its remaining members — Oregon State and Washington State — aren’t gearing up for football. Drawing reporters who were in town for the Big 12 and Mountain West Conference media days, the abandoned Pac-12 Conference hosted “After Hours with the Beavs & Cougs” in an intimate setting at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino on Wednesday. The night included gourmet hors d’oeuvres and an open bar and current coaches, former stars and athletic officialds talking about the future.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis will host championships for all three NCAA divisions and the NIT in 2026, and the governing body’s men’s basketball committee has also approved including the Torvik and Wins Against Bubble rankings among metrics in evaluating teams for next year’s tournament. The Indiana capital and NCAA home was previously chosen in 2018 to host the 2026 men’s Division I Final Four. Divisions II and III finals have been added for the Sunday before the top-level title game, with the NIT final site to be determined. The committee added the Torvik projected team rankings and WAB metrics for the 68-team field for next year and approved Keith Gill as vice chair for next season.

NEW YORK (AP) — Kansas stars Mario Chalmers and Sherron Collins are among 16 ex-men’s college basketball players have sued the NCAA and multiple conferences over the use of their names, images and likenesses in promoting and monetizing March Madness. Turner Sports Interactive, the Big East, Pac-12, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC and ACC also are defendants in the class-action lawsuit. The filing says March Madness generates close to $1 billion in annual revenue for the NCAA, but none has gone to the plaintiffs.

UNDATED (AP) — The NCAA remains embroiled in multiple legal cases. The organization represents more than 500,000 athletes at more than 1,100 schools. Court challenges have already upended college athletics and more changes could be on the way.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A proposal that would require California universities to pay their athletes through a “degree completion fund” has been withdrawn. The plan would have required schools earning at least $10 million in athletics media rights revenue each year to pay $25,000 to certain athletes through the degree funds. The plan was dropped after the NCAA and the nation’s five biggest conferences announced a $2.8 billion settlement plan to address antitrust claims. Among other things, that plan allows each school to spend up to some $22 million each year in direct payments to athletes.

What is going to happen to the Pac-12 Conference? ›

Oregon State and Washington State are the only schools that will remain in the Pac-12 starting with the 2024-25 academic year. Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah are set to join the Big 12. UCLA, Oregon, USC and Washington will move to the Big Ten. The ACC is set to add California and Stanford.

Why is Pac-12 dissolving? ›

Arguably the main reason the conference fell apart—why 10 of its 12 schools fled, even at a reduced share of revenue—was because it couldn't agree on a new media rights deal. With its current deal set to expire in 2024, the league was the only one in the Power Five without a long-term contract.
