Play In-Person or Over Video Chat

You can host this game in-person or over video chat. The game is built to be run either way!

Someone killed the Don’s right hand man. He wants answers…

Backstory

Your guests will play the roles of one of the crooks, killers, mobsters, or gang-members employed by Don Carrasino, a notorious (and notoriously ruthless) mafioso. All of you are regulars at The Joint, Don Carrasino’s personal bar.

Murder!

The eight of you, along with the Don himself and his consigliere (or right-hand man), Danny “Chuckles” Luciano, were enjoying drinks, cards, and conversation at The Joint. The evening was shaping up to be quite festive when suddenly Chuckles stiffened in his seat, made a choked gurgling noise, and fell over dead at the bar, clutching at his throat.

Solving the Mystery

Now it’s up to all of you to figure out what happened to the Don’s right-hand man! Your guests will need to work together and use the game’s clues to determine who killed Danny “Chuckles” Luciano!

Had so much fun with this we will be doing more. Also love the download feature I can reuse the game with family.

Hosted a virtual event with 40 Participants. The first round was a little shaky but by Round 2 we were all professional Gangsters. I love how the PDF file allowed me to do all of the prep work but still be able to particpate fully in the fun.

We used Google Hangouts with 8 Breakout Rooms, one for each Character.

Theme Highlights : Gangster bar with some antiques, twinkle lights, a mirror'd ball in the center, striped seat covers and black and white table settings. We used the invitations in the packet.

After Prom party (10 people) all ages 18 or older. We did a 1920’s theme with decorations and had each character dress their “part”. It was fun and everyone said they enjoyed it.

Menu Highlights : I created additional, non-playing characters for each guest because I think it helped them to get into the theme of the evening easier. We started the night with a co*cktail hour when everyone mingled as their character. The Don greeted the guests and we had an Italian buffet dinner andthen murder!

We used this script and the large group format for a party we held at our arts center. We had so much fun. Everyone enjoyed the story and I was so thrilled that the audience really got into working as teams, asking questions between rounds and solving the murder. It was a blast and everyone wants to do it again!

We had a blast celebrating my 30th Birthday Party with Don Carrasino. I have hosted murder mystery dinners before, but this was by far the easiest to use than every other company I have tried. None of my guests had attended a murder mystery party before so I went with the 30-minute mystery and was not disappointed. It gave the perfect amount of time and content to do after dinner and before cake! The storyline was so fun and it really brought out the funniest sides of each guest. This night has provided so many memories and we’re already planning our next party!

We decided to separate everyone in groups of 8-9, so each group solved the mystery and this way it didn’t take too long. We received nothing but good comments from everyone. Everyone had a great time with the mystery and some were interested in where we purchased this one, so they could do their own!

Headline : Murder at the Jig was a ROARING {20s} success!

    Nickname : thejigweston

Menu Highlights : We served traditional 1920s fare. deviled eggs, smoked salmon cucumber bites, shrimp shooters, wedge salad, beef Wellington and risotto and dessert.

Theme Highlights : classy 20s, plume feathers stuck in liquor bottles, with Gatsby style table numbers, red, silver, black and gold. we also had a photo booth and prizes for best actor male and female, best costume male and female and best investigator. It was a BLAST!! in-between rounds and as each course was presented we played 1920s jazz music in background and only served "prohibition style" co*cktails. giveaways at the end of the night were candy cigarettes and chocolate cigars. EVERYONE LOVED THEM!

Murder at “the Jig” – we did the Don Carrasino murder plot with an entire restaurant full of people. Each table was either a character or an investigator, and they had to assign one person per table to take that roll. 98% of the guests came in costume…and we served a course before each round. It was a RAVING success and we did it with 120 people! we will be doing one monthly and look forward to using these EASY and SIMPLE layouts for all of them!

So we bought this kit for a church youth group murder mystery dinner and wanting to do an Italian mob theme and after reading other reviews I thought this was going to be great. So after we purchased the kit and printed it and was organizing for the game, we realized we couldn’t use it as there were too many swear words and sexual suggestions. So we ended up having to change our theme and bought a kit from another company. The other thing I will say about this kit is it is very scripted and doesn’t last as long as others. So if you have a group of introverts it might be good for your group.

    Video : Dalton City

We had a fun dinner party with our family and a couple friends. I liked how there were parts for 8-10 people at least because we had that. We had about seven courses that we enjoyed while the mystery unfolded. It would have worked better if we had followed the suggestion and had a host that wasn’t one of the suspects. As it turned out I was both serving and ended up being the killer. No one guessed it was me, but maybe because I missed some conversations. We were thinking next time it would be fun to study the game more first and share more clues that would be subtle but could lead people to pin point the murderer. It’s challenging to have lots of pasta dishes ready close together because they needed to be freshly cooked and warm. The game gave options to sort of act out the crime scene. To do it again I would have been ready to do that it would have added some more fun. Overall it was an affordable game that led to a creative and fun evening. It was just the right length and allowed for improvisation which we all enjoyed. Some other games are more scripted and much longer.

There was fake money, and poker cards and chips set out on the table. We also had a gangster photo booth set up with fake money in front of it for everyone to take their pictures in!

This was for my son’s 16th birthday party. Last year we did Inquisition of Vampires, and everyone loved it! We had our 8 guests, ranging in age from 11 – 16. They were all boys, so some of them were really good sports and played the female roles. Our Lorenzo had a wonderful Italian accent, and all of our guests gave their best shot at 1920’s mobster speech.
After 3 rounds, only two people guessed the murderer. Everyone had a great time, and there were lots of snacks. We also had a small photo booth prop where everyone had their picture taken as a gangster.

Had props for them , fedora hats and mustaches for the guys and boas and headbands for the ladies.

There are 8 primary characters in this game. Read the "How to Play" section for instructions on how to play this game with more than 8 people.

* = Optional character

Don Carrasino and the Murdered Mobster is suitable for 8 guests (or 8 couples), including the host or hostess. The available guests include:

  • Gino Cabella, the Hitman: Well dressed, soft-spoken, and cold as ice, Gino is an expert at "taking care of" people who end up on the Don's wrong side.

  • Catalina "Crazy Cat" Macciano, the Shooter: As quick with a smile or a ribald joke as she is quick to anger, Catalina is the Don's top gunslinger.

  • Claudia Navarra, the Don's Girl: Beautiful, sultry, and salacious, Claudia is the Don's main squeeze.

  • Antonio "Lefty" Bonocello, the Don's Bodyguard: Responsible for the Don's personal security, Lefty is a silent, menacing giant of a man.

  • Lorenzo Pennino, the Driver: Talkative, likable, and quick-witted, Lorenzo takes care of the gang's transportation needs, whether that means serving as chauffeur or getaway driver.

  • "Dirty" Vinnie Marino, the Conman: A smooth dresser and a smooth talker, Dirty Vinnie's good looks and silver tongue have always brought him good fortune.

  • Roxie "Stiletto" Russo, the Thug: Beautiful and dangerous, Roxie is a street-wise, short-tempered lady who is good to have on your side when things get thick.

  • Regina Guissepe, the Bartender: Only peripherally involved in the gang's affairs, Regina serves drinks and runs the till at The Joint, Don Carrasino's favorite bar.

Extra Players

  • *Investigator: If you have more than 8 players, additional players have the option of playing the role of "Investigators". In this role the players are not suspects and do not have character backgrounds but can question the suspects and try to solve the mystery along with the other players.

This game kit includes:

  • Hosting guide – Guidebook that takes you through all the steps for running the game
  • Character sheets – Information sheets for eight unique characters and one generic “Investigator” character
  • Name cards – Printable name cards that can be placed in front of players for in-person games (optional)
  • Introductory Handout – A brief description of the game that can be sent to your guests ahead of the event (optional)
  • Invitation template – Printable template that can be used to send paper invitations to your guests (optional)

Our line of 30 Minute Mysteries is specially designed for fast setup and easy play, whether your playing in-person or virtually over video chat.

All you need to do is:

  1. Gather a group of players
  2. Distribute character sheets
  3. Follow the party guide instructions

If you’re playing in person, you have the option of printing out the hosting script and character sheets, or you and your guests may view them on your electronic devices.

Best of all, the party facilitator can choose whether they join in the game and solve the mystery along with the other guests!

Playing the Game

While this mystery has 8 primary characters, it is designed to accommodate any number of additional players. See the “Expanded Game for Large Groups” section below if you have more than 8 players.

Each of the players will be assigned a character and given a character sheet that explains who or what their character is, what information their character knows, and how their character should respond to events that occur during the game.

The game will progress in rounds.

Round One will start with the party’s host or hostess reading a script that explains the nature of the mystery that is afoot. After the introduction is read, each player at the table will share a piece of information from their character sheet, which will often be met by a response from another player.

Round Two begins with the host sharing a clue that should shed further light on the mystery. After the clue is revealed, the players will once again go around, providing another piece of information.

Round Three, the final round, begins with the host sharing the last clue. The players then go around the table a final time, sharing their last piece of information.

By this point, the players should have enough information to piece together a theory about who was responsible for the crime. Everyone will vote for the culprit, which the host will then reveal. Any player or couple who correctly guessed the identity of the killer is declared a winner.

From start to finish, the game typically requires half an hour to complete.

What Do I Need in Order to Play?

Our 30 Minute Mysteries are specifically designed to not require very much in the way of supplies. All you need is:

  • Playing area
    • In-person – Table to sit around or large playing area where the guests can sit in a circle
    • Virtual – Video chat room (links to 3rd-party providers like Zoom included in game)
  • A group of players (minimum 8 people)
  • Access to a printer or electronic device (so you can distribute game materials)

Expanded Game For Large Groups

If you have more than 8 players, there are three ways that you can accommodate everyone:

  • Investigator Role – Using this method, eight guests play the primary characters while the remainder of the guests each play the Investigator role. Players in this role are not suspects and do not have character backgrounds but can question the suspects and try to solve the mystery along with the other players.
  • Teams – Each primary character can be played by 2 or more people that work together as a team. This works well if you’ve invited several couples to your event, but also works if you break up your guests into eight larger teams of 3 or more guests.
  • Multiple Groups – If you have 16 or more guests, you can break them up into groups of 8 players and run multiple instances of the game on their own. This method is best for large events (e.g. fundraisers) where each table of people can play through the game independently. This method goes well with the Investigator method, which allows you the flexibility to add more than 8 people to any group.

Both the standard and expanded games are included with the purchase of any game kit.
