My 256th recipe, "Bean Burrito", an easy, portable and flavorful wrap. Though Mexican cuisine is among my favorite cuisines, my knowledge of Mexican foods only extends as far as the nearby Tex-Mex fast food chains like Taco Bell and limited to dishes like loaded potato griller and cheese quesadilla. Those are the two dishes which I frequently have, whenever I choose to have a quick dinner. I had to wait until my trip to New York to try a different kind of Mexican food. Since we had a really hectic plan for the day, we wanted a place to make a quick stop for lunch, yet needed something filling which will keep my hunger at bay.
And above everything, I needed to find a place which also served some vegetarian options. This was the first time I stepped into Chipotle to try their famous Burrito. For folks who are not familiar, Burrito is a Mexican wrap made with flour tortillas and your favorite fillings. I was very much hooked up with that concept, since it gave me the freedom to choose whatever I want on my burrito. Apart from the option of making it vegetarian easily, I was also very comfortable since I could skip on some of the ingredients which I do not prefer, like bell peppers.
Though I liked the concept and flavor, I do not like to have a burrito from outside. It is actually a silly reason for me to avoid it. The burrito I get outside is so huge that I find it difficult to tuck it into my small mouth. I have to really stretch for a decentbite. Hence I prefer making burritos at home which are just perfect. Bean Burrito is one of the most easiest dishes I prepare. Technically speaking it does not need much effort or cooking. All you have to do is to prep the ingredients and keep it ready. And when hungry, just add yourfavorite ingredients in the ratio you love, wrap it up and enjoy.
I wanted this bean burrito recipe to be just a thought starter. I had added ingredients I normally cook, keep in my refrigerator and those I love. I had posted therecipes for cilantro lime rice and Mexican style beans earlier on the blog as well. But there is no hard and fast rule that you have to stick with the same. You can beas creative as you want and come up with different flavor combos and healthy options. Apart from being a nice dinner option, this can also be packed for your kid's lunch box. On such days, you can be pretty sure that there will be no leftovers in your kid's lunchbox 🙂

Notes | FAQ
- The quantity of ingredients is just for reference. You can adjust per your taste preference. However it tastes good when beans quantity is atleast twice that of rice.
- You can add other ingredients as well or skip any of the mentioned ingredients. Sautéed Onion, bell peppers, corn would be nice additions.
- To make it spicy, you can add a couple of slices of pickled jalapeños or a couple of dashes of hot sauce.
- You can use either use black or red beans. I have used red beans to make this burrito.

The ultimate Vegetarian Burrito recipe featuring cilantro-lime rice, chipotle-spiced black beans, sautéed peppers and onions, and a zesty avocado cream sauce. These veggie burritos are freezer-friendly and perfect for weekday meal prep.
Yes indeed. A veggie burrito starts off with healthy ingredients, but if you choose the wrong fillings and extras, it can turn into a fat-fest to rival any carnivorous wrap. For the uninitiated, a burrito is a Mexican soft tortilla, wrapped around a filling, sprinkled with cheese, and baked.
Authentic Mexican burritos consist of two thin flour tortillas filled with a variety of ingredients. Although the ingredients can be as creative and unique as one's imagination, a traditional burrito is filled with meat, vegetables, and beans. However, rice and guacamole are two very common additions.
Pinto Beans (Frijoles Pintos): With a creamy texture and earthy flavor, pinto beans are a staple in Mexican cuisine. They are commonly used in dishes such as refried beans, where they are cooked and mashed, and as a key ingredient in hearty bean soups.
Pinto beans are one of the most common types of beans and considered to be one of the most popular for northwestern Mexico and the United States. In fact, its scientific name, Phaseolus vulgaris, literally means “common bean.”
Cut zucchini, onions, green and/or red peppers and mushrooms in similar sizes, toss with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Roast in a 400-degree oven for about 15 minutes. While veggies are roasting, make rice. Roll roasted veggies with rice and feta cheese in tortilla.
The best rice for making burritos is short-grain white rice. It has a sticky texture that keeps all the fillings together in the wrap. This one also cooks quickly and evenly, so you don't have to worry about under or overcooking it. Many use jasmine or basmati rice for an even better flavor and aroma.
A whole-wheat tortilla wrapped around refried pinto beans, seasoned rice, cheddar cheese, sour cream, lettuce, homemade salsa fresca and sunflower seeds. Big flavor in a big burrito!
Sometimes, burritos are high in saturated fat due to ingredients like beef, cheese, or sour cream. As you can see in the nutrition information of the two different burritos above, the bean and cheese burrito has half as much saturated fat as the beef and cheese one since beans don't have saturated fat but beef does.
Mix and match healthy options like grilled meat (chicken, fish, shrimp), ceviche (raw seafood marinated in lemon or lime juice and other seasonings), black beans, brown rice, avocado salad, sautéed veggies, or tortilla soup.
Burritos are great for vegetarians to eat, because they contain so many important food groups and it's easy to add plant-based protein (thank you beans!). Brown rice and black beans provide fiber and protein, two critical nutrients to help keep you full.
Authentic Mexican burritos are usually small and thin, with flour tortillas containing only one or two of several ingredients: either some form of meat or fish, potato, rice, beans, asadero cheese, chile rajas, or chile relleno.
A basic conventional burrito is beans, cheese, and rice wrapped up in a tortilla. All kinds of other stuff is added to burritos but that's the basic foundation. What "little white things"? Cheese? (the cheese used in burritos is often white).
Pinto beans are the star of the show in my burritos - they are the protein. Like I say in my videos, there is always a case of Annie's Refried Beans out in the shop for emergency burritos as I firmly believe in having an easy meal to hand at all times and canned beans make that happen.
Additionally, TacoTime only serves the freshest produce available, 100% boneless skinless all- white meat chicken and top quality lean ground beef that is fresh and never frozen. Crisp Pinto Bean – Filled with refried pinto beans and cheddar cheese.
With a perfect combination of warm nacho cheese sauce, refried beans and premium seasoned rice all wrapped in a soft flour tortilla, it's the kind of cheesy you definitely want…and nobody has to answer “who's there” to get it.
